After serving his first drink at 16, he didn’t take long to decide that the art of cocktails would be his profession. Several drinks later, proof of his talent is shown by his numerous award-winning creations, such as the Pumpkin Patch, the cocktail that earned Baud the title of best bartender in Spain in 2015.
Distant origins and local successes
Baud prepared and served his first drink, an Aperol Spritz with Prosecco, in his home of Colorado, although his first personal creation was born in Barcelona and called Green Rascal, a cocktail made from fresh mint picked from the gardens of the Arola restaurant. Today, the Green Rascal continues to be one of the most popular cocktails on the menu.
"It's about creating stories"
He assures us that when he’s able to present a cocktail that surprises people and makes them smile, half the work is already done. The presentation of his cocktails is out of the ordinary, and Diego is always on the lookout for inspiration, sometimes finding it strolling along the streets of his neighborhood, just observing. He says that anywhere is a good place to find that “out-of-the-box” idea that helps to create a unique experience.
The recipe for success
This lover of cilantro and tequila has created such cocktail menu staples as the Green Rascal, Grandpa Mojito and Double Trouble, concoctions that he adapts for small and large events. He says that the recipe for success is listening to guests, getting to know their preferences in the moment and inventing a customized taste.
